USA RPS LEAGUE RULES
1. All tournaments
begin with the recitation of the USA RPS oath.
2. There are three permissible “throws” in RPS. They are
Rock, Paper, and Scissors. Rock beats scissors, scissors beat paper,
and paper beats rock. There are no exceptions. When two players “shoot”
the same throw they are considered tied and shall re-throw.
3. The “wind-up” consists of closing a fist and moving it
in vertical fashion approximately 6”-10” in height, 3 times.
This must be done “in sync” with the opposing player. Players
may wish to chant “RO-SHAM-BO” to help them get in sync.
4. The “shoot” is when a player actually delivers his throw.
It comes immediately after the “wind-up.” Players may wish
to follow “RO-SHAM-BO” with the word “SHOOT”
or not. The delivery of the shoot must be in sync with the opponent.
5. Each throw is considered an “engagement.” The best of
three “engagements” is a “bout.” The best of
three “bouts” is a match.
6. Each “engagement” begins with a referee raising his hand
vertically between the two opponents and saying the word “engage!”
This cues the players to “wind-up.”
7. Rock can be thrown any way as long as the fist is clenched.
8. Scissors can be thrown horizontally and vertically.
9. Paper is always horizontal.
10. All referees calls are final. There is no post-match arbitration
allowed.
11. When a participant loses his/her bout, the Bud Light/RPS branded
wristband is removed from their wrist.
12. Must be 21 years of age to Participate
USA RPS LEAGUE OATH:
“I know that RPS belongs to no man or woman and was created before
recorded history. To that end, as I prepare to battle and engage in
my worthy and respected opponent, I honor the RPS players that came
before me. I recognize the rules and regulations of the USA Rock Paper
Scissors Federation as the governing body of the sport and yield to
the authority of its referees and officials. RO-SHAM-BO – SHOOT”
It is typical to accompany
the last cry with clenched fists waving in the air in unison –
as in the wind up – and then shooting your favorite throw.)
